Louisa says: 'I've always been inspired by the form and beauty of Georgia O'Keefe's floral portraits and this piece stems from that. I studied her in detail many many years ago at GCSE level and in my later adult life am starting to see the immense beauty and simplicity in nature around us, in the way she did. I captured this rose with a view to expressing lines, form and pattern - and it inspires me to learn from nature. It is often said that getting out into the natural world and away from the demands of modern life helps us to reconnect with our inner being and to slow down and appreciate what we have. Many times we may glance at a beautiful rose in our own garden or at a florist's shop, but how many times do we stop to explore and indeed navigate the many patterns and glorious turns it takes within itself? Right here in this simple flower there is a reminder of the magic of life: both the beauty but also the complexity and history of all the things that led this flower to evolve. It's both deeply magical and deeply scientific at the same time. I find this fascinating, as it reminds me of looking deeper at the things in front of us and at our 'inner landscapes' and often pondering very big questions about life itself and what it means to be here. Louisa is an award-winning fine art photographer from seaside town Tankerton in Kent. She is known for her creative and ethereal style which captures Kent’s natural beauty and has featured in several publications from Vogue to Grazia.
